Various Massage/Bodywork Modalities
Swedish: The most common type of massage, Swedish, mainly relaxes the muscles and eases aches and pains. The Swedish system employs movements that can be slow and gentle, or vigorous and bracing according to the results the client wishes to achieve. Deep tissue: Deep tissue massage combines deep pressure from thumbs and elbows and includes stretching and joint mobilization. Sometimes pain is induced to secure results, but generally there should be no pain or discomfort in deep tissue massage. Sports massage: Sports massage is a vital tool for keeping athletes primed for top performance. It is a form of massage that utilizes specific strokes to help athletes obtain maximum performance and physical conditioning by increasing power, endurance and mobility both before and after an event or exercise. Football, basketball, baseball and soccer players can all benefit from massage before and after games. Boxers, swimmers, joggers, weight lifters, golfers, skaters, dancers, tennis players, as well as the "weekend warriors" and those who practice strength training or aerobics and benefit greatly from this type of massage. Hot River Rock: Hot stone massage is a variation on classic massage therapy. Heated smooth, flat stones are placed on key points on the body. The massage therapist may also hold the stones and use them to massage certain areas of the body. The heat warms and relaxes the muscles, which allows the therapist to work the muscles without having to use deep pressure. Myofascial Release: Myofascial Release is a technique that provides sustained pressure on connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. Geriatric Massage: Geriatric massage is a form of massage designed to meet the specific needs of the elderly population. It involves the use of hands to manipulate the soft tissues of the body to improve blood circulation, relieve pain, and increase range of motion. Active or passive movement of the joints may also be part of geriatric massage. Older people often suffer from a variety of age related diseases and as a result, they have poor blood circulation and limited physical activity. Many of them are also anxious, depressed, and lonely. Geriatric massage can help them maintain and improve their overall health, as well as regain certain physical functions that have been reduced or lost due to aging. Chair Massage: Also known as seated massage a convenient method of alleviating the stress inherent in most type of jobs. Slouching over a desk or standing for long periods of time, and spending hours in front of a computer all contribute to back, shoulder and neck problems. Chair massage is a quick and easy way to relieve some of this stress.
